This cool city has some of the most charming sights around and we’ve got your top three things to do:

Take a Brewery Tour: Did you know Portland’s got the most breweries per capita of any city in the US? Sign up for a walking beer tour to visit a few of the best and sample the local brew scene.
Visit Forest Park: It’s not called Forest Park for nothing – this is one of the greenest places in the city. A bunch of self-described “tree huggers” in Portland love this natural oasis.
Bike Somewhere: Leading the green revolution in the US, Portland loves its bikes. You can rent one for the day at many local shops and you’ll find it easy to navigate the city’s many bike paths and lanes on even major roads. It’s great exercise for your vacation, too!

Here are some tips on visiting Yellowstone National Park. First, plan ahead. If you want to stay in the park, you need to remember that campsites and hotels fill up fast. Reservations for the rest of this year or any month in 2012 can be made online now by going to www.yellowstonenationalparklodges.com or you can go to www.nps.gov and select Yellowstone and find lodging information. Most of the campgrounds do not open until mid-May or later.

Be aware that the weather is very changeable, even in summer. Wear multiple layers as it can be very cool in the morning but you will need to take off your jacket in the afternoon.

Next, take a camera. Yellowstone is unlike any other place and you’ll want some photos. You should also take some binoculars for wildlife viewing. Do not approach wildlife. This is especially true for bears, buffalo, wolves and also elk during the fall mating season. Safety information is available on the website and in the park.

There’s a lot to do in Yellowstone besides hiking, camping, and wildlife viewing. You can go horseback riding or whitewater rafting. All sorts of guided tours are available and in the winter you can even ride snowmobiles. Have a great time!

Many fabulous National Parks have been established. A sampling of the top National Parks gives an idea of the wealth of nature to be discovered.

Yellowstone

This is the first of the National Parks. A mecca for wildlife and a site for natural wonders like geysers and hot springs. Exploring, watching wildlife, camping and other activities help people experience Yellowstone.

Glacier

Hiking in the high country of the Colorado Rockies offers the opportunity to observe unique wildlife and geological formations as well as see breathtaking vistas and sunsets, but it also comes with its own unique areas of concern. Here are five safety tips to keep in mind when preparing for a hike in the Rockies.
1.Take a hiking kit. This is essential for any extended hike, but bears repeating. Make sure to have a kit that includes at least: a map, a compass, sun screen, 1 lb of food per day, extra clothing, flash light or lantern, first aid kit, firestarting material, matches AND lighter, a quality knife.
2.Be wary of wildlife. In the rockies wildlife is really wild and while not normally dangerous they will protect themselves and their young if they feel threatened. Observe from a distance.
3.Be prepared for temperatures to drop. In high altitudes temperatures can drop quickly after sunset. Take extra clothing and be careful of hypothermia even in the summer months.
4.Stay hydrated. High altitudes can suck the water right out of you especially if you are engaged in physical activity like hiking. Take plenty of water or a means of purifying water.
5.No how to read a map. Hopefully you never get lost, but if you do you need to be able to find out where you are and how to get back to the trail. Taking an orienteering course before your hike is never a bad idea. A better idea is to go with friends and stay on established trails. Can’t get enough?
